canon: toner not set

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

I’ve had to deal today with a strange error on a Canon MF4150. The toner was recently refilled, and on a print attempt the green light turned red and the following message appeared: toner not set / insert toner. I’ve extracted and reinserted the toner, restarted the printer, changed the toner, nothing worked.

After some Google search, I found out that the solution had nothing to do with the toner. Some times paper gets stuck in the tray and fools the printer into thinking that the toner is missing.

To fix the problem, take out all the paper from the tray and restart the printer. Job done icon smile canon: toner not set

power supply test

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Quite often I need to test a power source to see if it runs or not. One example is when a new computer does not start, and you don’t know the problem. The first step is to test the power source. You can test it by shortcutting two pins on the main power connector. The connector has 20 or 24 pins (the last 4 pins are used for PCI-Express video cards).

Connect the power supply to 220V AC and shortcut the 14-15 (17-18 on 24 pin connector) pins with an insulated wire, as shown in the picture below. If the fan starts spinning, the power supply works.
